The Senior Hawks went and did it again. The RedHawks returned from Cornwall with 5 more victories and another championship - the boys are a little bruised and worn from 5 games in 2 days, but with medals around their neck and the championship banner to hang in the gym , the Hawks are looking pretty darn good.
Aftter dominating defeats of l'Escale and TISS - 62-38 and 81-54, the stage would be set for a huge battle vs. the host St.Joseph's squad - a powerhouse that could be a contender at the provincial level. In these 2 games, rookie Brandon Judd led the scoring with 42 points.
After giving up a 12 point lead early in the first half, the Hawks would show their character and speed scraping their way to a tie at half. The game would go back and forth the entire half until the Hawks pulled away in the 4th with some pressure defence and perimter shooting. St.Joe's would find a way to tie the game yet again by erasing a 6-point deficit in the final 2 minutes. An exciting overtime would see the Hawks surprise with some pressure creating a few steals leading to baskets and finish off the game with some free throws.
In the 4th game, the weary Hawks struggled to edge out Cornwall CVS setting up the final vs. St.Teresa (Belleville). In the Corwall game, the bench would help lead the Hawks to victory as many of the starters struggled to find their legs.
In the championship game, the Hawks would regain their form and gut out a
win 67-54. David Dufort and David HB would lead the way with a combined 32 points.
Dave & Dave have been spectacular this season leading the Hawks in every way - scoring, defence and leadership. Jimi Leach who took last year off has found his groove and continues to be solid for the Hawks.
Rookie Brandon Judd has been impressive contributing to the Hawks powerful offence. Rookie Sean McEwen has helped the hawks coming off the bench bringing defensive fire and rebounding. Vince Dufort has helped put a new spark into the offence with his dazzling playmaking skills. These players from last year's EOSSAA Championship team have been solid for Coach Dufort.
